Academic Counselling | Professional - Popular Executive Sectors

Academic Counselling, The Academic Counseling complements the services provided by departmental advisors.

The academic counseling is committed to meeting career and academic needs of students, faculty, staff, and community members.

Professional, The Academic Counseling is an assistance program which helps the students acquire more effective and efficient study skills.

Student Academic Counselors conduct group workshops and individual sessions that focus on skills such as:

1. Textbook reading
2. Lecture note-taking
3. Time management
4. Exam preparation and other skills

The Academic Counseling program is designed to help both:
students who are having academic difficulty
students who just want to improve their study skills

Our Counselling training programs are developed for various levels of management, from supervisory preparation to innovative leadership techniques for the candidate.

Training as a Counsellor, you would provide people with time, attention and a safe, confidential environment to help them explore their feelings. This could be for many reasons, including relationship difficulties, bereavement, or wanting to improve the way they deal with everyday life. You would not give advice, but would encourage your clients to look at their options and find their own solutions for positive change.

In most areas of Counselling training, your work would involve:

  • building a relationship of trust and respect with clients
  • agreeing a 'counselling contract' to establish what will be covered in sessions
  • encouraging clients to talk about the feelings that have made them seek counselling
  • listening carefully, asking questions and clarifying your understanding of the client’s situation
  • empathising with the client’s issues, but challenging them when necessary
  • helping clients to see things more clearly or from different perspectives
  • referring clients to other sources of help if appropriate
  • attending regular supervision and counselling sessions
  • keeping confidential records.
