Consumer Goods

The consumer goods are defined as mass-produced items, with individual consumers being able to exert choice over their purchase (thus excluding the pharmaceutical industry) and control over their use, except for food and housing. Consumer goods firms must have with some level of direct contact with the consumer.

The definition of consumer goods explicitly includes the following sectors:
• Automobiles,
• Clothing,
• Sports equipment,
• Toys,
• Household:
• Consumer Electronics.

The challenge for suppliers and retailers of consumer goods is to manage the continuous regular movement of stock through the supply chain from the producer to the purchaser with required efficiency. There are various roles for the executives in the consumer goods (FMCGs ) sector as the food technologists, supply chain managers, sales representatives, etc. with the majority of opportunities in the fields of production, transport and distribution, wholesale/retail, business/commerce, food science, and the information technology.
